As a qualified person-centred counsellor, I am fully insured, hold an enhanced DBS certificate, and am a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I am committed to anti-discriminatory practice and welcome all members of our diverse community. I adhere to GDPR and data protection legislation and am a registered member of the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO). Any written personal information you share will be stored securely and safely.

Counselling Agreement
At the start of our first session together, I will ask you to read and sign my counselling agreement, and we'll both retain a copy. The agreement will outline the work we'll do together, my policies regarding confidentiality, safeguarding, equality, supervision, Continuing Professional Development (CPD), GDPR, insurance, liability, Disclosure and Barring Service, the ethical framework I abide by, my cancellation policy, and the complaints procedure.

Confidentiality and Safeguarding
Everything you speak about in our sessions together will be confidential with the exception of any safeguarding issues that you mention. It is a legal requirement for me to report anything you mention regarding drug trafficking or human trafficking, money laundering and terrorism. If I feel that you are at immediate harm to yourself or others, or if there is any risk of harm to a child or vulnerable adult, I will need to inform the appropriate agencies. If any of these occasions should arise, I will discuss it with you first.

Equality Act
I am committed to working with and treating equally all people of varying ethnic backgrounds, genders, sexualities, disabilities, religions, and ages in accordance with the Equality Act (2010).
Supervision
As per the BACP's ethical framework, I attend monthly supervision with a suitably qualified supervisor. This is to ensure that I am working within my capabilities, and to discuss our work and my feelings around it. No identifying details about clients will be shared with my supervisor. Supervision ensures that I am working with your best interests in mind at all times.

Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
I commit to a minimum of 30 hours every year of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) to keep my skills and knowledge up to date and to keep abreast of the latest thinking in therapy which contributes to client safety. I will provide details of further skills and qualifications on my website, and in my literature, upon request.

GDPR and ICO
I comply with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) to ensure that all personal data is collected in a secure and legal process with proper consent from the client to ensure further client confidentiality. I am also registered with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO). I will keep brief, factual notes of our sessions which will be kept in a securely locked cabinet and destroyed in equally secure conditions seven years after our last session together. These notes will be kept separately from the client's personal details and will have no identifying factors on them. For example, I will differentiate clients on their notes by a unique series of letters and numbers known only to me.

Insurance, Liability, and DBS
I hold current and ongoing professional liability insurance and professional indemnity insurance. I also hold an up-to-date and ongoing Enhanced Disclosure and Barring (DBS) certificate.

Professional Membership
I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP); membership number 00992856 and I abide by their ethical framework which ensures my commitment to my clients, ethics, and good practice. Further information regarding their Ethical Framework can be found on their website at www.bacp.co.uk.

Cancellation Policy
I would appreciate at least 24 hours notice if you need to cancel a session, and I reserve the right to charge you half the fee for short notice or non-attendance.

Complaints Procedure
If you have any concerns regarding any of the work we do together, in the first instance, I ask that we discuss this together openly. However, if you feel that your complaint hasn't been resolved, you can make a formal complaint with the BACP here.
